Method Functional Safety

TUV Certified Functional Safety Expert

in IEC 61511 and IEC 61508

The Solution =Method

Method Functional Safety works in partnership with TUV Sud to certify delegates for the award of “Functional Safety Expert” in IEC 61511 and IEC 61508. This prestigious award recognises a high level of formal training, knowledge and experience in the field.

Those who are awarded “FS Expert” can demonstrate an involvement in functional safety over an extended period of time, the ability to lead a functional safety project and have a history of presenting papers at conferences, working in industry associations or developing related standards and guidance. Note that while there is no specific training course for “FS Expert”, =Method can help advise and guide applicants so that they can be successful in their application for the award.

Approach

=Method will support you to collect and present evidence that you meet the requirements for certification as an expert, then manage the application with TUV Sud on your behalf. If =Method identifies any gaps in your evidence, we will advise you as to what actions you can take to fill those gaps.

Requirements to attain the award

Requirements for TUV Functional Safety Expert certification with =Method:

  • Hold TUV Sud Functional Safety Professional certification (or equivalent).
  • Provide evidence of presenting papers at conferences, being involved in relevant industry associations or developing training standards and guidance (note, =Method delegates may apply to present a paper at =Method’s Free CPD Seminars ).
  • Be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience of working in the field of functional safety (note, attaining the TUV Sud FSP certification already demonstrates a minimum of 6 years of experience).
  • Provide evidence of having led a functional safety project, which can be shown to be at the level expected of Functional Safety Expert and covering all phases of the functional safety lifecycle. Should there be “gaps” in the delivery of projects across the functional safety lifecycle, those gaps could be closed by providing two case studies (covering the missing phases of the functional safety lifecycle) for assessment (note: =Method Workshop case studies are accepted).

Cost

The application fee for TUV Functional Safety Expert certification is available from our team on request. The fee is only paid when the Functional Safety Expert award is made.
