Functional Safety and SIL for Operators Training Course in IEC 61511

A training course designed to provide Operators with a basic knowledge in functional safety and an appreciation of its relevance in the workplace. The course introduces the key concepts of functional safety and functional safety management in accordance with IEC 61511 and goes on to develop that understanding through classroom discussions, activities, videos and exercises.

Course Content

This course is based on a choice of standard modules that can be tailored to the client's specific requirements and desired learning outcomes.

• Legal requirements
• Managing failures
• Auditing and Monitoring performance
• Bypasses, Overrides, Inhibits & Alarms
• Operation, Maintenance and Inspection
• Modifications to Plant and Processes
• Attitude and behaviour

Who should attend

This training is targeted at individuals, managers and teams who:

• Have an operational role and are directly or indirectly involved with safety instrumented systems and projects at any stage of the functional safety lifecycle.
• Require a general introduction and awareness of the functional safety standards and the key requirements for compliance.

Pre-qualification

A good understanding of process plant and previous experience working in the process industry with manual and automated processes.

After this training course you will:

• Have an appreciation of functional safety, the functional safety lifecycle and its relevance to operational tasks.
• Understand the importance of “compliance” and “working safely” throughout the “operate, maintain, repair” FS lifecycle stages.
