HazOp Training Course for Team Members

If you are going to be in a HazOp, it is important that you understand the HazOp process

The Solution =Method
Hazard Study for Team Members - 8 cpd hours Brochure (PDF)

Every Team Member in a hazard and operability study has an important role to play. If you are going to be in a HazOp, it is important that you understand the HazOp process, how to prepare, and your role in the meetings to make sure your contribution is effective.

HazOp Training Course for Team Members

At =Method, we believe HazOps are too important to leave to chance.

This is a 1-day practical introduction to Hazard and Operability Study (HazOp). It is designed to give prospective HazOp team members the knowledge and confidence they need to participate effectively in hazard study meetings.

This learning outcome is achieved through both formal classroom training and by participating in a simulated HazOp meeting. We usually offer this training as a private course to clients who are about to begin a program of HazOp studies, and who want to make sure their team is fully equipped for that.

Course Content

    • An Introduction to Hazard Study – why, what and how!
    • HazOp Context – process safety, and where HazOp (also called ‘hazard study 3’) fits within the IChemE’s 6-stage approach to hazard study.
    • Process Hazards – an overview of the most common process hazards, including fires and explosions, overpressure and runaway reaction.
    • The HazOp process – the mechanics of how HazOp meetings work.
    • Risk Scoring – how do we know if we’ve done ‘enough’? Practical uses, and common pitfalls associated with risk scoring.
    • HazOp Practice – a syndicate exercise, carrying out a study on either =Method’s sample process (public courses) or a real-life example (in-house courses).
    • Effective Team Participation – What is expected of HazOp team members. How to prepare well and participate effectively to ensure a good HazOp.
    • Functional Safety - The relationship to and requirements of Functional Safety standards (such as IEC 61511), which provide the framework within which the Hazard Studies are taking place and which in turn depend on the study outputs.
    • Next Steps – what happens after HazOp

Good information and examples of carrying out HazOps

I now have a better understanding of how we define causes and safeguard

David kept us engaged throughout which from my experience of being in other safety trainings is quite difficult

Should be mandatory prior to attending HazOps
